About Eoin O’Carroll

I got my start in journalism more than 25 years ago as a travel columnist, writing about cross-cultural communication and hosting travel chats on the Boston Globe’s website.

My career zigzagged from alt-weekly journalism to a fellowship at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna to The Christian Science Monitor, where I worked for 15 years as an online editor, intern coach, and science writer.

Since turning to freelancing in 2021, I’ve written about cognitive neuroscience, particle physics, and high-performance computing for Princeton University; asteroid mining, ancient history, and stand-up comedy for Curiosity Stream; and my two tuxedo cats, Sinéad and Pádraig, for Northeastern University’s Experience Magazine.

In 2022, I edited The People vs. Rubber Bullets, an investigation by the independent journalism studio Long Lead. The project received a Webby Award, a Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, and an American Journalism Online Award from NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute.

I have a master’s degree in journalism from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University, where I majored in philosophy.

I live in Western Massachusetts with my wife, two kids, and the aforementioned cats.
